If you’re going to spend time exploring the cities of Oklahoma, I’d recommend multiple days. What happens if you are short on time though? I’ve got your schedule ready to go. Let’s set up a one day itinerary for sipping exceptional craft beer and shopping in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Heavy emphasis on cute shops full of local treasures, and hip breweries filled with hoppy pints.
6:00 am – Breakfast
Getting right down to it, let’s have breakfast.
You’ve got options.
If you want to go for more of a cute diner like feel, either have a meal at Tally’s or the Dilly Diner. For something a little more modern, Neighborhood Jam is popular. You really can’t go wrong with any of these choices.
7:00 am – The great outdoors
If you’re visiting in the summer, you’ll want to do this part right after breakfast. That way, you’ll be beating the heat. Spend some time outside.
Pick one, two, or all three of these!
Turkey Mountain. This is the place to go if you’re a hiker. You’re still in the city, but a few steps onto the trails and you’ll feel like you’re on another planet! You’ve got 300 acres of hiking and biking trails.
The Gathering Place. This park is not just for kids. If you have kids, perfect. If not, you can still find yourself losing a few hours as you wander around. The grounds are gorgeous. There is a small museum, café, and you may even catch a yoga class.
The Blue Whale. The whale is a bit outside the city, but worth the drive if you’re a sucker for roadside attractions like I am. Photogenic from any angle, and you can even climb on board! Pack a snack if you want to sit at one of the picnic tables and enjoy your time here.
I have a full blog post just on these three places over here. They’re my 3 must stops for Tulsa!
10:00 am: Shopping in Tulsa
Now that you’ve moved around a bit as a warm up, snapped a few good photos, and breathed in a few trees… time to head to the stores. We’re skipping all the chains and going to what matters – the local gems.
Made is my absolute favorite. This is a goldmine of a store. The entire thing is filled to the brim with products from over 150 crafters, most local. You’re going to find clothes, accessories, paper products, jewelry, and more. From items you always need, like greeting cards to things you never knew you did, like homemade matches.
Jo and June is a shop that carries a lot of sustainably sourced new goods, as well as with a focus on vintage.
If you haven’t had your fill of quirky roadside attractions yet, make room for Buck Atoms. Not only can you stop and get a photo op with the giant neon signs and Buck Atom himself… but you can also pick up a tee-shirt that lets everyone know you believe Bigfoot exists and he lives in Oklahoma!
1:00 pm: Lunch time
Make your way down to Cherry Street for lunch. I’d like to consider myself a pizza snob. By snob, I mean that I just really like pizza. I try to have pizza in every city or town I visit if possible, because pizza. I’m really not that picky, it just has to not suck LOL.
Andolini’s Pizzeria not only fits the bill of “not suck”, but they do one better… they ROCK IT. I read the ratings (highest for a pizza place in the city as of when I was there), and headed in with high expectations. They were exceeded. This place is delicious. Both the pizza, and the service.
2:00 pm: More shopping
Now that you’re refueled, it’s time to hit the shelves again. Switch gears though, and switch from local to vintage.
Vintage Vault is LOADED down with midcentury furniture. If you want some classic pieces to fill up your dining or living room, this is where you’re going to find them.
A few other shops are worth mentioning as well.
Love Me Two Times, the i44 antique mall, and 40 year vintage are all places with unique finds. They have stalls filled to the brim with home good, collectibles, and more. Pick one and go explore!
4:00 pm: Sipping exceptional craft beer
Once you’re thirsty enough to be done shopping, it’s time to get to brewery hopping! Oy boy. Yeah. I just did that. Alright. Moving on past my super corny jokes…
Your first brewery shop needs to be Nothing’s Left.
This place has an amazing set up inside what looks like an old gas station. Giant bay doors. Plenty of in and outdoor seating. If you like fun flavors, this is your stop. While their chocolate peanut butter stout is popular… always get a flight when you come here. You can try basic fun like a strawberry blonde ale, or super fun things like fruit and marshmallow sours. Plus, the wall was a coloring book, so there’s that.
Then move on to the trifecta of breweries. Three places all within walking distance to one another.
One. Cabin Boys carries a lot of different types of beers, but they seem to excel at Belgian styles. If you dig the outdoors, make sure you don’t leave without picking up a tshirt.
Two. Around the corner you’ll find Marshall. More traditional, they are Tulsa’s first production brewery. You won’t find a whole lot of the funky fun flavors that others are experimenting with, but you will find a ton of really solid beers made right. My personal favorite staples here are their ESB and the oatmeal IPA.
Three. Right in between the those two places is American Solera. Fun sours, plenty of IPA’s, and lots of barrel aged stuff.
Those are my main recommendations… but if you have the time, there are plenty more. Not to mention taprooms where you can find other great brews. Speaking of…
7pm: Dinner
Pizza was for lunch, so let’s get a little fancier for dinner. Head back down to Cherry Street, and find Roosevelt’s. From salads to burgers to things like meatloaf and shimp and grits, their menu has tons of options.
We took the ‘share a few appetizers’ method because I am such a sucker for a good slab of wood loaded down with goodies. If two people split the pretzel rolls & beer cheese, plus the cheese board… you have so much food you will leave full and still have some things leftover.
Along with the absolutely delicious food came good service… AND AN ENTIRE WALL OF BEER TAPS! There are 75+ taps on the wall and the styles span everything you can think of. I opted for a flight of 4, because 4 beers are better than 1 (even if they are a bit smaller).
Most of the beers they carry are Oklahoma brewed too, getting as much local love in as possible. If you aren’t a beer person (I’m going to try really hard not to judge all you non craft beer people, but internally just know I AM still judging you), they do have fun cocktails as well.
Finish up the day
Need a place to crash for the night? We opted for an air bnb in the Cherry Street area. Everything near there was within walking distance, which made for some easy meals.
It made for a great morning walk down to a coffee shop as well.
