Hey! I'm Katrina.

I love the outdoors, exploring new places, and I'm constantly trying to learn how to grow and improve myself. I'm also anxiety filled when things don't go as planned, and really have no idea what I'm doing with myself on any given day.

I'm not an expert. I'm a leaner. Try. Fail. Grow. I have no idea how to save a few ounces while on a backpacking trip. I'll go workout then pick up a beer and yell “treat yoself!!”. I huff and puff and take a million breaks when hiking uphill (Living in the flattest part of Texas is tough. There might be one place in town to climb a hill, and it's a man made pile of dirt. No, really.)
Do you know what? Most other people aren't experts either. I can share my experiences, tips, and OH NO DON'T DO THAT moments, and hope they help you grow with me.

This space isn't just mine, it's ours. Let's form a community of nature loving people always leaning how to better ourselves.

My Story

Growing up in a small town in NY (population 4000), my first really big adventure was moving to a new city in Texas (population 100k) when I was 19. Culture shock! I had to learn how to meet new people, navigate new streets, and find out what Tex-Mex was. That feeling of newness was amazing, so I started finding somewhere brand new to explore as often as possible. Then came a cargo van. One week after deciding to get one, I was rambling on about my camper plans to a stranger 5 hours away selling his carpet cleaning van. This would make it easier to travel! Meet Vincent, a 2010 Ford E250.

My Passions

Growing up, our town had a small park with a waterfall I would climb with my friends (shhh don't tell my mom). We took tons of day trips to towns on the Finger Lakes full of rivers, lakes, and waterfalls. Now I'm obsessed with chasing waterfalls and making day trips to new towns.

Summers as a child were spent rollerblading to the library, or skateboarding to get ice cream. The algorithm of 'doing something active + treat' stuck. Now it's a hike, followed by reading in a hammock, or going out for a craft beer.

There used to be a giant rock field/quarry next to my house and I'd play out there for hours. Add in a yearly rock and mineral show that started a ollection of 'pretties'. Now, I pick up rocks everywhere I go, turning many into jewelry (and stuffing my shelves with even more. Can you hoard rocks?).
Somewhere along the way, some habits for self growth were discovered. I lost 60lbs by learning about food and getting back into moving my body more. Figuring out that stomach pains diminished and I just felt overall so much better when cutting back on the things that weren't healthy and introduced more things that were.

I'm figuring it out as I go, learning and growing over time with every experience. I love nature**, and hope to help others cultivate a sense of adventure.

**Disclaimer: By “nature” I mean most of nature. The stinging, biting, venomous, itchy parts of it are not included in this love.
